Video: Stephan Sagmeister

Response to the video segment:
Stephan Sagmeister is a very creative artist in terms of word placement, color usage, and type faces. His work is generally based around, or in front of, a well-edited photograph. I like how Sagmeister has a particular style that's reflected through much of his work.

Example of his work:

Art Event #2 - Tim Myers music show

Date: January 28, 2008
Location: Hotel Cafe in Hollywood (Los Angeles)
Artist: Tim Myers

Brief Description:
I ventured to a small music venue in Hollywood, and got to see one of my friends, Tim Myers, play a handful of amazing songs with a solid band of professional musicians. I know Tim because I used to love attending shows where he played in a band called Limousine. Years passed, and then he joined the band known as OneRepublic, which he quit recently, to become a solo artist.

Amazingly enough, Tim is the newest musician to have his music featured in the latest Target commercial (also featuring their brand new art direction). The show was really great because Tim played 4 or 5 of his own songs, 1 duet with Schuyler Fisk and 1 cover of Beck's "Lost Cause." Beck's studio violinist who was at the recording sessions for "The Information" album (from Beck) and was accompanying Tim on stage at the show.

Art Event #1 - Beauty Revolution

Date: January 26-28, 2008
Location: Los Angeles Convention Center
Event title: Beauty Revolution
Link: http://www.beautyrevolution.com/

Brief Description:
Every year, the cosmetology industry hosts two big events in the United States. This event took place in Los Angeles. The event consists of companies that provide spa and hair services, create products for skin, nails, makeup, or hair, and there are classroom lectures based on the industry's economics and explanations of processes of advanced hair, makeup, and nail services.

Why I was there:
I have attended the event, as a hair model, for the past 2 years, and I find the event fascinating when it comes to the live stage shows that showcase creative and artistic hair designs. This weekend, I had the opportunity to work with one of the live stage show companies, and was a hair model for 8 live shows throughout the weekend.

What I like about David Carson:
I like how David Carson has a laid-back attitude about what works and what doesn't. He isn't afraid to take risks.

What I like about his work:
I like the edginess of his design and typography. His work is consistent with everything he does (he has a very famous style).

What surprised me about his work:
I admired his creativity when he was pointing out how the words on the walls weren't visually descriptive (examples: caffeinated, third date, explosive, rocket car, etc.).

The type of companies he worked for:
Raygun magazine, Transworld magazines, Nike print ads
